Comparative assessment of valorising agri-food residues to PHA (bioplastic) versus biogas

In the AgriLoop project diverse new pathways for added-value creation from agri-food residues have been developed, such as the production of the bioplastic PHA. For early-stage assessment of the environmental performance, based on data derived from experiments and scientific literature, this processing pathway was parameterized in the CAT-BREVIA Tool.

The leaflet summarizes the findings of the comparative study in which the environmental performance of the emerging valorisation pathway was evaluated against that of conventional pathways. The findings substantiate that the preferent valorisation pathway (in terms of considered environmental performance) depends on characteristics of the residue stream.
